Back in 2008 Barry Murphy and myself were more than happy to host border ads on the original eDiscoveryJournal.com. Why not? In the decade that followed I came to understand the insidious nature of sponsors and the pressure that marketing budgets can apply. They provide revenue and expect/demand influence in exchange. The recent wave of social media/marketing platform bans on Russian state media campaigns made my heart sing. Even global technocrats can make the right call when the rest of the world leads the way. It is hard to turn down overt or covert ad revenue. It is ‘easy money’, especially for a compulsive writer (guilty). Once you are free of sponsorship and marketing revenue you are free to speak unfiltered. Hence my amusement at a recent persistent secret cryptocurrency marketer, a real 007. Enjoy.

I am lucky enough to get regular inquiries on content placement, ghost writing and other more subtle brand amplification mechanisms. I understand why other bloggers/journalists are fine with these kinds of engagements. Just not my style.

On a happier note, my LegalWeek briefing slots booked up in just a few days of frantic scheduling. Other than the usual provider parties, I am reserved exhibit hall and social time slots so that I can catch up with peers old and new. Message me or flag me down if you want to talk shop at the show.
