What can Gartner customers expect as the acquisition closes? I bet that your Gartner rep will have a new bunch of advisory services and even some analytic technologies to sell you. Does that mean that Gartner will have a conflict of interest covering the service providers/markets that they now compete in? Of course it does. But no more ethical conflict than their current model where eDiscovery providers buy expensive research subscriptions ($20k+) to make sure that they appear in the magic 8-ball diagrams. Even when eDJ Group was focused on being a boutique market research firm I insisted that every ‘analyst’ had to take real consulting engagements to keep their feet firmly planted in the mud. How can you give best practice advice if you aren’t in the trenches seeing real world clients try to put it into effect? So I believe that this infusion of solution services and tools is the right direction for Gartner in the long run. It is much closer to my original vision of blended research, online technology and solution services to meet the needs of enterprise customers.

Stay skeptical my friends!
